The story of RAM & Harbic Group dates back to the 1940s in Brisbane, when Harbic Brassware began producing high-quality brass wastes and floor drains. Over the following decades, Harbic Brassware became one of Australia’s largest and most respected waste manufacturers, supplying products to builders and plumbers across the country.
In 1983, Harbic Brassware joined forces with RAM Tapware, marking the beginning of Ramtaps Pty Ltd as we know it today. The merger combined Harbic’s engineering craftsmanship with RAM’s growing expertise in tapware design and manufacturing, forming the foundation for one of Australia’s few fully integrated bathroom hardware producers. Following the merger, the company expanded rapidly and operated four factories in Eagle Farm, Brisbane, employing nearly 200 people at its peak — a testament to Australia’s strong manufacturing heritage.
Throughout the years, Ramtaps has remained a quiet innovator within the Australian plumbing industry. Many of our patented floor waste designs became national best-sellers and remain market standards to this day. In the 1990s, we introduced the world’s first brass-shell mixer cartridge, engineered specifically for Australia’s high water pressure conditions — a breakthrough that set a new benchmark for reliability and performance.
In 2009, we established our wholly owned manufacturing facility in Ningbo, China, expanding our production capabilities while maintaining full control over design and quality. The following year, inspired by the heritage of brass itself, we adopted yellow as our official group colour. Since then, Ramtaps has been recognised across Australia and overseas as “the bathroom brand in yellow packaging” — a symbol of craftsmanship, warmth and continuity.
We also focus on how our products reach customers. Most packaging now uses recyclable cardboard and cotton bags instead of soft plastics, while recycled materials are used as fillers in outer cartons. All metal offcuts and swarf from production are collected and 100 percent recycled through long-term partners, ensuring that valuable resources re-enter the manufacturing cycle.
Today, our dual-facility structure — with R&D and manufacturing operations in both Brisbane’s Eagle Farm and Ningbo — continues to support our long-standing commitment to engineering excellence and product longevity. From a local brassware workshop to an enduring Australian manufacturer with international reach, the history of RAM & Harbic Group reflects more than eighty years of craft, innovation and integrity — values that continue to define everything we do.
